The former Grambling coach was named the Assistant General Manager ( Recruiting Operations Coordinator ) at Georgia State University.
Jackson was most recently the head coach at Grambling State. Despite improving a lot of the Tigers from 3-8 in his first campaign to 5-6 in his second, he was still shown the door, in a surprising development, following a 27-22 loss to Southern in the Bayou Classic.
Before taking the Grambling job, Jackson served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Eddie George’s staff at Tennessee State.
His coaching career that has spanned more than 30 years began in 1987 at Pacific where he served as a wide receivers coach, running backs coach, and special teams coach. Save a one-year stint as running backs coach of the London Monarchs of the World League in 1991, Jackson spent 12 of the next 13 seasons in the collegiate ranks, getting his first coordinator at Cal in 1996. He served in that role at USC from
1997-2000.
His first NFL opportunity came in 2001 as a running back coach with the Washington Redskins. Coach Jackson was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2003 and he would oversee offenses in this role for the Atlanta Falcons (2007) and the Oakland Raiders (2010).
He was named the head coach of the Raiders the next season and guided them to an 8-8 mark.
Returning to Cincinnati in 2012, where he previously served as wide receivers coach from 2004-06, to take on the role of a secondary assistant and special teams coach. The next year he served as running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2014, a post he remained in for two seasons.
Coach Jackson’s next bite at the head coaching apple came in 2016 when he led the Cleveland Browns for three seasons.
Jackson returned to Cincinnati for a third time in 2018, serving briefly as an assistant to then-head coach Marvin Lewis
